the supreme court rejected the obama administration's advice and said we will hear the case anyway. that will be scheduled to the weeks to come. even though it will not really affect so much of what is going on in guantanamo, it goes to the power between the executive branch and the judicial branch over who will say and under what circumstances foreign detainees can be freed, foreign detainees who are no longer being held as enemy combatants. the second case which is related to that, which i will refer to my notes, a statutory participation case, and has to do with a challenge to a federal law intended to prevent international terrorist groups from raising money in the u.s. the statute itself is what is at issue. as part of the 2001 patriot act, the question is whether this group violated the material support provision that says -- that defines a violation for any service, training, or expert advice or assistance to a designated foreign terrorist organization. this is a case brought by a colleague of richard's at georgetown university, who is representing the humanitarian law privat
